Job Summary:
ProTalent is working with an esteemed accountancy practice based in Cambridge, seeking a highly experienced and dedicated individual to join the team as the Head of Payroll. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing while adhering to legal and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a comprehensive understanding of payroll legislation, and the ability to effectively lead and manage a team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement payroll strategies, policies, and procedures in compliance with UK legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the end-to-end payroll process, including data entry, calculation of wages, benefits, bonuses, and deductions, and the generation of payslips.
- Ensure timely submission of payroll to relevant authorities, such as HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), pension providers, and other relevant third parties.
- Stay updated on changes in payroll legislation, tax rates, and employment laws, and effectively communicate these changes to relevant stakeholders.
- Lead and manage a small team of payroll professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with other departments in the practice regarding payroll-related matters.
- Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in payroll management and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Professional certifications such as Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) are desirable.
- Proven experience in a senior payroll role, preferably within a UK accountancy firm.
- Thorough understanding of UK payroll legislation, tax regulations, and employment laws, including Real-Time Information (RTI), auto-enrolment, and PAYE.
- Proficient in using payroll software and familiarity with payroll systems and related technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritise tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
- Proven leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and develop a small team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the practice.
- High level of integrity and discretion when dealing with sensitive employee information.
